A 28-YEAR-OLD man has appeared at the Bulawayo Regional Court facing carjacking and armed robbery charges.
Alexander Ngwenya was found guilty and sentenced to nine years imprisonment.
Two years of the sentence were suspended, hence Ngwenya will serve an effective seven-year jail term.
The court heard that on November 13, 2024, Ngwenya, along with two accomplices who are still at large, ambushed Charlton Sibanda (31) outside his home in Selborne Brooke, where he had parked his black Honda Fit outside the gate.
One of the suspects pointed a pistol at Sibanda while the others wrestled him to the ground, snatched his car keys and sped off in the stolen vehicle.
During the escape, they ran over Sibanda, breaking his right leg.
Ngwenya and his accomplices fled with a sling bag containing US$1 000.
The stolen car, valued at US$6 500, was later found abandoned near the Food for Less shops in Emganwini, Bulawayo.
