The City of Bulawayo says it is building new classroom blocks and teachers’ accommodation for its schools.
Council operates 31 schools in the city, 30 of which are primary schools.
Housing and community services director Dictor Khumalo, said the municipality was developing infrastructure in partnership with stakeholders,
He cited a case where the council in partnership with Thembalezizwe Trust, was constructing teachers’ cottages at Aisleby Primary School.
“The provision of staff accommodation at the school would help retain good teaching staff,” Khumalo said.
“Over the years, the school had performed poorly in the Grade 7 public examinations due to high teacher turnover.
“A lot of students had been transferred to better performing schools because of the school’s poor results in public examinations.”
Khumalo said Queen Elizabeth Primary School was developing an early childhood development classroom block, which is being constructed in partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints.
