Foundation rallies Bulawayo for annual cancer awareness walk

Lift Foundation will host its annual Cancer Awareness Walk on October 18 in Bulawayo

The Lift Foundation will host its annual Cancer Awareness Walk on October 18 in Bulawayo, bringing together corporates, health professionals, community members and survivors to raise awareness about the importance of early detection.

The event, which blends education, fitness and community engagement, aims to inform participants, provide free screening and inspire collective action against cancer.

The walk, now a flagship event on Zimbabwe’s health calendar, seeks to educate the public on cancer prevention, provide support for survivors and foster stronger community partnerships in the fight against the disease.

Lift Foundation spokesperson Kudzai Pfute said this was more than a fitness event, but an opportunity for people to come together, get screened, and show that no one fights cancer alone.

Pfute said in line with its mantra, “Early Detection Saves Lives,” the foundation partnered Galen House, which would offer free breast cancer testing and rapid prostate screening tests during the event.

She said the day would feature Zumba and stretch sessions, a children’s zone, stalls, and entertainment by a local DJ, ensuring a lively and inclusive atmosphere.

“We want participants to learn, connect and have fun while embracing wellness,” Pfute said.

She said, among the event’s consistent supporters is Sinkwa’s brand, recognised for its dedication to breast cancer awareness.

"Mrs Sinkwa’s commitment continues to inspire many. She is a valued partner who uses her platform to champion women’s health,” Pfute said.

She said survivors were expected to return each year to share their stories of resilience, which have become defining features of the walk, offering hope to those battling cancer.

“Over time, the awareness campaign has influenced corporates, churches and communities to implement wellness programmes and counselling sessions that encourage early testing and healthy lifestyle choices,” she said.

Lift Foundation’s name, Leading Initiatives Fighting Cancer Together, reflects its mission.

“Our goal is to keep people informed and hopeful. Together, we can reduce cancer’s impact in Zimbabwe and save more lives,” Pfute said.

The Bulawayo Cancer Awareness Walk continues to grow annually, blending fitness, education and compassion and demonstrating that when communities unite, hope truly rises.
