Due to aged infrastructure challenges, the city’s nonrevenue water currently stands at 48%.

While the City of Bulawayo continues to face water challenges due to low inflows into the city’s supply dams, aging water infrastructure has seen recurring pipe bursts affecting the delivery of bulk water.

Due to aged infrastructure challenges, the city’s nonrevenue water currently stands at 48%.

The water challenges have also contributed to increased sewer bursts and to address these challenges the city has dedicated a third of the US$221.5 million 2026 budget towards improving water and sanitation services.

This entails US$70.3 million that will be channelled towards water and sanitation in the coming year.

The allocation of the huge chunk of the budget towards water and sanitation is guided by the stakeholder engagement which places water as the city’s top service delivery priority.

According to the service delivery budgetary priorities water comes first followed by health, sewerage, housing, roads, education, public lighting, social services and civil protection.-
