The City of Bulawayo launched a citywide measles/rubella (MR) vaccination programme targeting children aged between six months and five years.
The programme will be implemented across the City’s 22 Municipal clinics, referral hospitals such as Mpilo Central Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals, Mater Dei Hospital, selected private surgeries, crèches, primary schools and public places.
Council has partnered with the Health and Child Care ministry in rolling out the exercise.
Measles is an airborne, highly contagious disease that spreads easily when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes.
Zimbabwe recorded a measles outbreak in 2022 resulting in the Central Government embarking on a nationwide vaccination programme.
“In 2022, the country experienced a measles outbreak with the most affected age group being 6 months to 14 years,”Bulawayo Town Clerk, Christopher Dube, said in a notice.
“It is against this background that the country is going to conduct a Measles/Rubella campaign.”
