BULAWAYO residents have commended the municipality for proposing a standstill budget for 2026 while encouraging council to develop recreational facilities that will accommodate the youth.
In the 2026 budget proposal, the council stated that its budgeting was informed by macro-economic projections including exchange rate stability and predictions of good rains.
Nomasonto Ncube, an informal trader, welcomed the City’s proposed budget for 2026.
“Keeping tariffs unchanged is a relief and we welcome it. Council should however create opportunities for young people,” she said.
“We have community centres that are under-utilised due to their poor state.
“We hope they can be refurbished as this will not just empower the youths but also reduce social problems in our neighborhoods.”
Another resident, Danford Sibanda, also spoke of the need to strengthen recreational facilities at a time when the country was battling with a drugs and substance abuse problem. —
