A PLUMTREE man has been remanded in custody for allegedly setting his mother-in-law’s house on fire, accusing her of bewitching him.
Thubelihle Tshuma appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware on charges of malicious damage to property.
The magistrate remanded him in custody until October 20 for a bail ruling.
According to court papers, the incident occurred on October 9 at around 6pm.
The complainant was in her bedroom hut when Tshuma arrived and confronted her, alleging that she was using witchcraft against him.
In a subsequent act of arson, Tshuma allegedly set the house ablaze.
The court heard that the structure and all its contents were completely destroyed, burnt to ashes.
The complainant reported the crime to the police, leading to Tshuma's arrest.
