Shurugwi welcomes Tagwirei appointment to Zanu PF CC

Sakunda Holdings chief executive officer Kudakwashe Tagwirei

SHURUGWI North legislator Joseph Mpasi has welcomed the appointment of prominent businessman and Sakunda Holdings chief executive officer Kudakwashe Tagwirei into the Zanu PF central committee, describing it as a major boost for development in the Midlands mining district.

Tagwirei, who hails from Mlauzi area in Hanke, Shurugwi, was recently appointed to the party’s central committee — the ruling party’s highest decision-making body outside congress.

Speaking after attending the Zanu PF national people’s conference in Mutare recently, Mpasi said Tagwirei’s inclusion in the central committee brings renewed hope for accelerated infrastructure and community development in Shurugwi.

“As the Member of Parliament for Shurugwi North, I am delighted by the appointment of Cde Kudakwashe Tagwirei to the central committee,” he said.

“His leadership qualities, experience as CEO of Sakunda Holdings, and his passion for the development of Shurugwi will greatly benefit our district.”

Mpasi said he had a fruitful discussion with Tagwirei during the conference, focusing on a range of developmental projects that could transform Shurugwi.

“We spoke extensively on key issues affecting Shurugwi — particularly road infrastructure, health facilities, and job creation.

“We agreed to join forces to ensure that the Tongogara–Lalapanzi Road is tarred soon,” he said.

Tagwirei has already played a significant role in the district’s development, having funded the construction of the Donga–Tongogara Road ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections and also financed the construction of Tongogara Clinic, which has improved healthcare access for thousands of villagers.

Mpasi said the business mogul’s new political role, coupled with his influence as chairman of the Land Tenure Committee, would help address several long-standing developmental issues in the constituency.

“Cde Tagwirei’s influence and connections will help unlock investment opportunities and ensure that the people of Shurugwi benefit from national development programmes. His presence in the central committee strengthens our voice as a district,” Mpasi added.

He said he was also engaging large mining companies operating in Shurugwi, community leaders and government departments to co-ordinate efforts towards improving roads, schools and health services in the district.

“We must work together as stakeholders to uplift our people. I believe Cde Tagwirei’s commitment and track record in supporting local projects demonstrate his dedication to the growth of our area,” said Mpasi.

Residents of Shurugwi have welcomed the news, expressing optimism that the collaboration between their MP and the Sakunda boss will bring tangible change to their communities.
