THE Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training has launched an ambitious transformation of vocational training across Zimbabwe, aiming to modernise and standardise skills development.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 296 students from vocational centres in Bulawayo, Youth, Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training deputy minister Kudakwashe Mupamhanga said the government was implementing the Vocational Training Transformation Framework, which he described as a national strategy to turn training centres into innovation hubs responsive to both local and global needs.
He said the government was reimagining vocational training centres as innovation hubs for local solutions and green technologies.
Mupamhanga also outlined plans that include the establishment of digital campuses for coding, design and e-commerce and enterprise incubators to support small businesses and co-operatives.
He said particular focus was being placed on Matabeleland and Bulawayo, ensuring centres reflect regional realities, are industry-responsive and culturally inclusive while addressing social vulnerabilities.
“These centres must reflect the realities of Matabeleland and Bulawayo, be responsive to industry, inclusive of culture and resilient against social threats,” he said.
Mupamhanga said to ensure relevance and impact, the ministry was integrating tracer studies, production units and an inclusive curriculum so that “every skill leads to opportunity.”
There were 113 male and 183 female students who graduated from Lobengula Vocational Centre in Bulawayo.
