Bulawayo launches clamping blitz

The City of Bulawayo

The City of Bulawayo has announced an immediate, intensive blitz targeting motorists with unpaid fines for traffic violations.

The operation focuses specifically on those who have breached Statutory Instrument 220 of 2023, the city’s clamping and tow-away by-laws.

According to the city council, the crackdown will primarily affect buses, kombis, and pirate taxis that were previously fined for illegal practices, such as loading and dropping off passengers at undesignated points.

Vehicles found with outstanding fines will be impounded and towed to a city storage facility.

Owners will then be required to settle their original fines in addition to new tow-away and storage costs to reclaim their vehicles.

The city has also warned informal traders operating at designated vending sites that they are included in the exercise and must clear all outstanding annual licence fees and monthly rentals immediately.

The council urges all residents and businesses with outstanding arrears to comply urgently to avoid inconvenience and disruption to their operations.

The blitz is now underway.
