A 56-year-old man from Village 3, Sishawe in Insuza has been arraigned before the courts facing a rape charge.
He allegedly raped his 11-year-old stepdaughter, while her mother was in hospital. The man appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Taurai Manwere facing one count of rape and pleaded not guilty.
He was remanded in custody to November 28 for continuation of trial.
The court was told that in September 2022, the complainant, a Grade 7 pupil at Sishawe Primary School, was left in the care of the accused while her mother was admitted to St Luke’s Hospital for maternity.
The girl and the stepfather were sharing a bedroom hut on the fateful day.
During one of the nights, the stepfather allegedly sneaked into the girl’s blankets and raped her.
After the act, he reportedly warned the girl not to tell anyone, fearing arrest.
The girl initially confided in her mother after she returned from the hospital, but no action was taken.
