Two brutal murder incidents have shaken Bulawayo — a 26-year-old man stabbed to death in Magwegwe and another man hacked to death with axes in Cowdray Park — amid rising violent crime.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the cases and identified the deceased man from Magwegwe as Mongiwethu Godknows Dube.
She said Mongiwethu was walking with friends when they met Keith Dube from the same suburb who reportedly splashed beer on them.
“The following morning at around 4am, Mongiwethu Godknows Dube and his friend went to Keith Dube’s place of residence, opened his bedroom door, pulled him out of the house and assaulted him,” Msebele said.
She said Keith screamed for help, adding that a man identified as Nkosi intervened and produced a bayonet before stabbing Mongiwethu on the right thigh and head.
“On the same date at around 5pm, the mother of the now deceased received an anonymous call informing her that her son was injured and was lying close to Magwegwe North shopping centre,” she said.
“She summoned an ambulance, which ferried Mongiwethu Godknows Dube to Mpilo Hospital, where he was admitted and later died on the same date.”
Meanwhile, in another murder case, Msebele said Zibusiso Tshuma from Cowdray Park was drinking beer with a friend at a tuckshop in the area when they saw three accused persons, two of them were only identified as Henry and Gii.

Msebele said the three were all armed with axes, resulting in Tshuma and his friend fleeing in different directions in fear. The trio pursued Tshuma, whom they reportedly struck several times all over the body with the axes.
Tshuma died on the spot.
A police report was made and the body was taken to a mortuary at a local hospital for post-mortem.
