Gweru targets US$50K for Christmas cheer fund

Gweru mayor Martin Chivhoko has appealed to the corporate sector and individuals to raise at least US$50 000 towards the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer fund required for the underprivileged communities this year.

Speaking in the Midlands capital at the fund’s official launch dinner, Chivhoko said the charity fund raising initiative was not merely an annual event, but an effort to bring smiles to the needy during the festive season.

He said this would be done through the provision of basic necessities such as food, healthcare, education and clothing among others.

“Our goal is to raise US$50 000 to bring joy and relief to the elderly, orphans, people with disabilities and underprivileged families,” Chivhoko said.

“Every act of kindness, no matter how small has the power to transform a life.

“To achieve our target we appeal to all well-wishers to contribute generously.”

Guest speaker at the event and Sheasham Group of Companies director Clever Mandaza said the “spirit of Ubuntu” called for unity in helping the underprivileged even during challenging times.

“This event embodies the true essence of community spirit where we come together to support those in need,” Mandaza said.

“Even in challenging times there is always room for kindness, compassion and generosity.

“Every contribution whether financial, voluntary or in spreading awareness plays a crucial role in transforming lives.

“As we celebrate we recognise the power of collective effort to bring about meaningful change and l am proud to support an initiative that builds a more caring and inclusive Gweru.”

The theme for this year’s Christmas Cheer Fund is Ubuntu Together, Let’s Help Each  Other.
