A 43-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has appeared in court facing two counts of sexual abuse.
Edson Phiri, who is being accused of abusing a juvenile, pleaded not guilty to aggravated indecent assault and rape before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira.
He was remanded in custody to December 30 for trial.
The court heard that on two occasions early this week, Phiri allegedly forced himself on the complainant while she was asleep at a house in Sizinda.
According to the State, on both occasions, the accused person took advantage of the complainant when she was asleep and raped her.
The matter came to light after the victim reported the rape, leading to a police investigation.
The juvenile was referred for to hospital for medical examination, whose report is expected to be presented in court as evidence.
