A spirit of compassion, faith and hope filled Tafara Children’s Home in Shurugwi during a festive outreach that saw children receiving treats and renewed assurance of a brighter future, following major development pledges by the River Valley Group.
The visit, inspired by the biblical call to care for children as captured in Mark 10:13–16, brought smiles and excitement to the young residents as they interacted with visitors in an atmosphere of love and celebration.
Speaking during the visit, River Valley Group CEO Smelly Dube described the experience as both uplifting and deeply humbling, saying it reinforced the responsibility society has toward nurturing and protecting vulnerable children.
“It was an exciting experience interacting and sharing festive treats with the children at Tafara Children’s Home in Shurugwi,” said Dube.
“On behalf of the River Valley Group, I pledged to complete the construction of a hostel facility for girls and to support the building of a new school.”
Dube said the commitment was rooted in the belief that meaningful development begins with investing in children, who represent both the present and future of the nation.
“By investing in children, we are investing in our own future, and in a legacy that will outlive us,” she added.
The proposed girls’ hostel is expected to provide safer and more dignified accommodation, while plans to support the construction of a new school will expand access to education for children at the home and surrounding communities.

Caretakers at Tafara Children’s Home welcomed the pledge, saying the developments would significantly improve the welfare and educational prospects of the children, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The outreach blended faith with action, reflecting the message of Christ’s words: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” For the children of Tafara, the visit was more than a festive celebration — it was a reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported.
As the River Valley Group moves to fulfil its pledges, the initiative stands as a powerful example of how corporate and community partnerships can create lasting impact by placing children at the centre of development efforts.
