A 19-YEAR-OLD man from Insuza in Umguza district has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for aggravated indecent assault of a 14-year-old girl.
Lovewell Mthethwa was convicted by Bulawayo regional magistrate Archie Wochiwunga.
The court heard that the incident occurred on September 20 last year at 2pm, when the girl was on her way to collect a notebook from a friend.
She encountered Mthethwa, who persuaded her to accompany him to his home.
On arrival, Mthethwa unlawfully detained the minor overnight.
During her captivity, he indecently assaulted her by fondling her breasts and inserting his fingers in her private parts.
The next day, Mthethwa in bid to avoid legal consequences sent an intermediary to the victim’s family to ask for forgiveness on his behalf.
However, the girl’s mother swiftly took her daughter to the police to make a report, leading to Mthethwa's arrest.
