The Artisans for Economic Development (Artisans 4ED) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering development and reducing poverty in communities by equipping locals with essential skills and resources.
By focusing on vocational training and skills development for artisans and young people, Artisans 4ED aims to create a workforce capable of driving local economic growth, reducing unemployment and fostering self-reliance — key factors in improving community livelihoods and contributing to national development.
Speaking to Southern Eye, Artisans 4ED national secretary for information and publicity Edward Saushoma said the organisation aimed to empower artisans to drive economic growth and improve livelihoods through targeted initiatives.
“Our focus is on equipping individuals with the skills and resources needed to thrive in a rapidly changing economy,” he said. “By empowering young people through vocational training and skills development, we hope to create self-reliant individuals who contribute meaningfully to their communities’ economic development.”
Saushoma also highlighted the importance of education, linking it to unlocking the potential of the youth as schools reopen. He urged stakeholders to collaborate in supporting artisans and boosting community development.
Calling for government support, Saushoma advocated for the establishment of a fund dedicated to reindustrialising Bulawayo, underlining the role of industrial growth to national development.
“We believe that every individual has the potential to contribute to the growth and development of our nation,” he said.
