Mbeba goes AWOL

Andrew Mbeba

Highlanders vice-captain Andrew Mbeba was again absent from training as Bosso played friendlies at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds on Sunday.

The Bulawayo giants played two friendly matches, edging Talen Vision 2-1 before settling for a goalless draw against Zebras Revolution.

Mbeba, who has reportedly informed the club that he wants a house included in his demands for a contract extension, was not part of the squad that went through its paces under the watchful eye of assistant coach Mkhokheli Dube, with newly appointed head coach Benjani Mwaruwari observing proceedings from the terraces.

Meanwhile, veteran defender Nomore Chinyerere featured for Highlanders in the victory over Talen Vision, playing at centre-back.

Formerly with FC Platinum and Dynamos, the left footed defender was with Triangle United last season.

Reports indicate that Mbeba is refusing to sign a new contract for the 2026 PSL season unless the club includes a house in his signing-on package.

The 25-year-old defender, whose contract expired on December 31, 2025, has stayed away from training and is demanding better terms.

He is currently a free agent, with his contract having expired on December 31, 2025.

He has stayed away from training, missing the start of the 2026 pre-season.

Highlanders FC is keen to retain him, but the demand for a house has created a deadlock.

This demand comes amid reports that other Zimbabwean clubs have recently purchased houses for players.

Mbeba is considered a loyal product of the club, but his future remains uncertain pending the outcome of these negotiation.
