A 48-year-old woman from Fort Rixon, Insiza District, Matabeleland South, has appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Themba Chimiso, facing an assault charge following a violent altercation with her former sister-in-law over water.
The accused, Sinikiwe Mpofu, will be back in court on April 11 for the commencement of trial.
The court heard that on March 16, Mpofu and the complainant, Sikhathazile Dlodlo, her ex-sister-in-law, were at a local borehole fetching water when a misunderstanding arose.
Tensions escalated, leading to Mpofu allegedly striking Dlodlo, who allegedly retaliated by picking up a brick and striking Mpofu on the right ankle.
Dlodlo is also said to have hurled insults at Mpofu during the altercation, further escalating the dispute.

The matter was later reported to the police, resulting in Mpofu’s arrest.
