Dombwe Clinic set to serve 10 000

More than 10 000 people in and around Shurugwi are set to gain improved access to healthcare services with the construction of Dombwe Clinic taking shape.

The facility, spearheaded by Shurugwi North legislator Joseph Mpasi, is expected to open its doors in October and is poised to transform healthcare delivery in the constituency and beyond.

During a site visit on Monday, Mpasi expressed satisfaction with the progress made, noting that the project is on course to meet its intended timeline.

He assessed ongoing construction works and reiterated his commitment to improving access to quality healthcare in the area.

“We are making significant progress here at Dombwe Clinic, and I am satisfied with the work done so far,” Mpasi said.

“This facility is a game-changer for our people, who have long struggled to access health services.”

Once complete, the clinic is expected to serve between 5 000 and 10 000 people from surrounding communities, reducing travel distances to health facilities and improving overall well-being.

The clinic is being designed as a state-of-the-art facility, with plans to include a resident doctor, theatre, radiography services, an ambulance, a maternity wing and a mortuary.

Mpasi, who is funding the construction, said the project has also attracted support from members of the Shurugwi community.

“This is not just my project — it is a community effort,” he said.

“Sons and daughters of Shurugwi have come forward to support through equipment and materials, and that spirit of unity is what will make this clinic a success.”

He added that efforts are also underway to complete other health facilities in the constituency, including clinics at Juchuta and Poshai.

“Our vision is to ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to accessing healthcare,” he said.

“We are pushing to complete Juchuta and Poshai clinics as well, so that our people can receive quality services closer to home.”

The Dombwe Clinic project forms part of broader development initiatives in Shurugwi North aimed at strengthening health infrastructure and improving service delivery across the constituency.
