Hwange’s Baobab Hill property owners told to regularise or risk repossession

Ndumiso Mdlalose

THE Hwange Local Board has issued a final warning to property owners in Baobab Hill to regularise their ownership documents by July 10, or risk having their stands classified as derelict and repossessed.

Town secretary Ndumiso Mdlalose said several owners had failed to respond to an earlier call published on May 16, 2026 regarding the verification of property ownership in the area.

“Council notes that the owners of the properties listed below have not yet reported to the Housing Office to verify their allocation and ownership details,” Mdlalose said in a notice dated June 26, 2026.

The affected stand numbers are 1418, 1419, 1420, 1422, 1450, 1467, 1515, 1526 and 1532.

Owners or their authorised representatives have been directed to report to the Housing Office in Empumalanga on or before July 10 2026, bringing supporting documents including national identity card and proof of payment for the stand.

According to the council, the verification exercise aims to confirm rightful ownership, update property records, facilitate processing of formal ownership documentation, and ensure compliance with land administration requirements.

The local authority made it clear that non-compliance would carry serious consequences.

“Stand owners who fail to comply with this notice within the stipulated period shall have their properties classified as derelict properties in terms of the Titles Registration and Derelict Lands Act [Chapter 20:20],” the notice warned.

“Such properties shall be liable to repossession and any other action that council may lawfully take to safeguard and administer its land inventory.”

However, the council encouraged owners unable to meet the deadline to contact the Housing Office before the notice period expires.

Property owners with queries can reach the Hwange Local Board housing office in Empumalanga for further assistance, the notice read.
