A 28-year-old Bulawayo man has appeared in court facing an indecent assault charge after allegedly sexually assaulting his 25-year-old workmate following her rejection of his romantic advances.
The accused, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the complainant, allegedly fondled the woman’s breasts and buttocks before slapping her during the incident.
He appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Isheunesu Mathoba and pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was further remanded for continuation of trial.
Prosecutor Mabusiso Moyo told the court that the incident occurred at around 9am on March 23, 2026, in a bushy area along Lucy Road in Montgomery, Umguza District.
“The accused person approached the complainant, who was walking along the road, and started proposing love to her, but she refused. The accused then grabbed her hand and started fondling her breasts as well as slapping her bums,” Moyo said.
The court heard that the complainant fell to the ground during the ensuing struggle.
“While she was still lying on the ground, the accused person continued fondling her breasts and buttocks until she finally kicked him to free herself,” Moyo added.
The complainant later reported the matter at Queens Park Police Station, leading to the accused’s arrest.
