A Bulawayo man allegedly raped his eight-year-old daughter and threatened to kill her if she exposed him.
The accused, aged 33, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the child, pleaded not guilty to the charge before being further remanded for the continuation of his trial.
He appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla.
Prosecutor Tsungai Mutapi told the court that the offence occurred on August 8 this year.
"The accused, who sleeps in a separate bedroom, woke up during the night and furtively walked into the bedroom where the minor was sleeping, before carrying out the sickening attack,” Mutapi said.
“After that, he threatened to kill the minor if she ever divulged the incident to anyone.”
She also told the court that the alleged assault came to light after the girl was noticed having difficulty walking, prompting a relative to question her about her condition.
The child was rushed to hospital and the matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest.
