BULAWAYO, SEPT 25(SOUTHERN EYE Live) : Police in Bulawayo are appealing to members of the public who may have been conned by a suspected fake accommodation agent to make formal reports following the arrest of a man accused of fraud.
Police identified the suspect as Gift Elvis Ndlovu of Killarney, who allegedly operated as an accommodation agent using a WhatsApp channel called “Accommodation in Bulawayo” to lure prospective tenants.
According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Ndlovu would allegedly demand a US$20 agent or viewing fee, and victims were instructed to deposit into given EcoCash numbers.
Police said the accused would block the victims' numbers soon after receiving the payments.
