Gwanda mayor orders councillors to crack down on illegal dumping

In a memorandum dated October 6, 2026, Moyo urged councillors to closely monitor and address cases of illegal dumping, saying maintaining a clean environment was a collective responsibility.

GWANDA, OCT 8, (SOUTHERN EYE LIVE): Gwanda mayor Thulani Moyo has ordered councillors to step up the fight against illegal dumping in their respective wards ahead of government inspections.

In a memorandum dated October 6, 2026, Moyo urged councillors to closely monitor and address cases of illegal dumping, saying maintaining a clean environment was a collective responsibility.

“I would like to urge all councillors to closely monitor and address incidents of illegal dumping within their respective wards,” Moyo said.

“Maintaining a clean and healthy environment is our collective responsibility and it is important that we take proactive measures to prevent indiscriminate waste disposal.”

Moyo also directed councillors to encourage residents to dispose of waste responsibly and ensure that illegal dumping sites were identified and reported promptly.

The directive comes ahead of inspections by teams from the Local Government ministry.

“It is therefore essential that we work together to keep our wards clean and presentable,” Moyo said.
