The FBC Zim Open has returned bigger and better after title sponsors FBC Holdings Group committed a US$200 000 prize fund which has seen the stakes for the competition increase from 2.5 million Rand to 3 million Rand as the tournament continues to grow on the Sunshine Tour.
It is the fourth year in a row that one of the country’s top financial institutions has retained the title sponsorship of the event.
The tournament, which signals the start of the 2025/2026 Sunshine Tour season, tees off on May 8 and concludes on May 11.
But in earnest it will be an eight-day golf extravaganza starting with the Pre–Qualifier on May 4, with the Pro-Am competitions taking place on May 6 and 7.
FBC Holdings unveiled this year’s prize fund for the tournament at the launch press conference in Harare early last month.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that the FBC Group has committed a sponsorship of US$200 000 towards the 2025 Zimbabwe Open for Tournament. Allow me to emphasise that, as FBC Group, we are proud to be the sponsors of the 2025 Zimbabwe Open tournament,” FBC Holdings Group chief executive officer Trynos Kufazvineyi said.
“I am here before you once again, filled with immense joy and a sense of fulfilment, as we gather to announce our contribution to the development of golf in Zimbabwe and the Southern African region at large. This sponsorship is a testament to the FBC Group's commitment to support development and social impact.
“FBC Holding is a responsible corporate leader which is committed to making meaningful contributions to the social, environmental and economic well-being of the communities we serve. Our corporate social responsibility efforts are informed by the evolving needs of the society at large.

“We may focus on aligning with national, regional and global development priorities, including the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that are popularly known as the SDGs. Over the years, the FBC Holdings Group has become a dominant player in promoting the development of both in Zimbabwe,” he added.
FBC Holdings has managed to increase the prize fund for the competition every year since taking up the mantle as title sponsors ahead of the 2022 edition of the country’s flagship event.
Zimbabwe Open Committee chairperson Livingston Gwata expressed gratitude to the title sponsors for making the tournament bigger this year.
“We are indeed looking forward to a most successful 13th national tournament in this series (since relaunching in 2010). We are most grateful to our sponsors and their partners who have committed their premier brands to our premier event. We are most grateful to FBC Holdings Limited for their significant contribution and support as title sponsors for the fourth year in a row,” said Gwata.
“As Zimbabwe Open Committee, we are grateful for the facilitation and support we get from our parent body, the Zimbabwe Golf Association. We stage this national event to showcase golf being played at world-class level in the sincere hope that this will inspire our up and coming young golfers to attain the highest level in the sport,” he said.
This year will mark the 13th edition since the reintroduction of the Zimbabwe Open in 2010.
Initially, a total of 144 golfers, including at least 17 local professionals and five amateurs, were set to take part in the tournament but reports suggest that the total number has been increased to 156 by the Sunshine Tour.
