We’ve got the bull’s eye on our back: Mutasa

MWOS FC coach Lloyd Mutasa

MWOS FC coach Lloyd Mutasa thinks his team has become victims of their own success as everybody now wants to beat them following their remarkable start to life in the premier league.

The Norton-based side, who got promoted to topflight football after buying a franchise, are unbeaten in their opening nine matches.

They came from behind to snatch a 1-1 against Manica Diamonds on Thursday to reclaim the top spot on the log standings from midnight leaders Simba Bhora.

Salif Cheya converted an 80th minute penalty to cancel Ask Rupande’s first half goal.

The result took them to 19 points, one better than Simba Bhora after nine rounds of matches.

MWOS travel to Chicken Inn in tomorrow’s premier league showdown at Luveve Stadium, and Mutasa is expecting another tough battle.

He believes they are one club everybody wants to beat after their bright start to the league.

Asked about the sort of challenge he is expecting from Chicken Inn, Mutasa said: “It’s going to be another tough encounter.

“Remember, every time you play, if you’re on top of the log, everyone wants to beat you. Everyone wants to break the jinx.

“So they will come at us, and I’m sure this should be a warning to us as a team, that every team that we play against, we need to give it our all.”

Mutasa is desperate to return to winning ways on Sunday so that his team can consolidate their lead at the top after they dropped points against Manica Diamonds.

“We just hope and pray that we win,” he said.

“Remember, we lost two points at home, something that is new to us.

“And then we want to try as much as we can to rectify it.”

The draw against Manica Diamonds was the first time that they had dropped points at Ngoni, leaving Mutasa unimpressed.

“Remember, we want to turn this into a fortress,” he said.

“It means we want to get maximum points every time we play at our home stadium.”
