“Our goal is to elevate the league further by building upon the solid foundation that has been laid.”
Chizondo emphasised the importance of accountability in the league’s success.
“As we move forward together, accountability is vital. This game belongs to us, and we must take ownership. Through unity and commitment, we can create an environment where every player has the opportunity to shine and realise their full potential,” the new ZWPSL boss added.
Chizondo also highlighted the need for inclusivity and respect in the league.
“Our community is rich in talent and passion, and it is imperative that we cultivate a culture of inclusivity and respect that allows every player, every coach and every administrator to contribute and to benefit from football,” she said.
“We aspire to excel on the field of play. We aim to empower our players off the field, as well as equipping them with the skills and confidence necessary for success in all aspects of life.”
Chizondo pleaded with football stakeholders to give the women’s league the value it deserves.
“By investing in training and support systems, we can ensure our players are prepared to face the challenges of tomorrow,” she said.
“Together, we can foster a legacy that transcends the boundaries of the field, inspiring future generations to embrace the values of teamwork and perseverance.
“Our vision is to create a league that not only garners respect for its competitiveness, but is also celebrated for its commitment to growth and the well-being of all players.”
Chizondo concluded by acknowledging the outgoing board’s achievements and emphasising the importance of nurturing young talent.
“As we embark on this exciting journey, let us celebrate the achievements of the board that just left. The future is in the grassroots and nurturing young talent from an early age,” she said.
Correctional Queens chairperson Lewis Muzhara was elected ZWPSL vice-chairperson uncontested, along with other board members: James Shamuyarira Mupfudza, Sibusisiwe Dube Rugwevera, Mercy Makuwatsine, and Talent Chitsaka.
A fifth board member, a female, will be co-opted by the new executive in accordance with the constitution.
In her parting words, Maguraushe, the outgoing chairperson, expressed pride in the league’s achievements and confidence in the future.
“As I step down as chairperson, I’m proud of what we have achieved together. I’m confident that the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League is in good hands, and I have no doubt that the future is bright,” she said.
“To my successor, I offer these words of wisdom: never lose sight of our objectives, remain committed to our values, and always put the needs of our players first.”
She thanked the ZWPSL family for the opportunity to serve expressing her continued support for the league.
“To the ZWPSL family, I’m honoured to have served you. I will always cherish the memories, the laughter, and the tears. I will continue to support and advocate for women’s football, and I have no doubt that together, we will create a brighter future for our league.”
