ZHF declareswar on counterfeit merchandise

The federation said the increasing abuse of its intellectual property threatened the integrity and commercial value of handball as the sport continues to grow in Zimbabwe through grassroots development and regional participation.

The Zimbabwe Handball Federation has warned individuals and institutions against the unauthorised sale and use of its merchandise and branding material amid growing concerns over counterfeit handball products on the market.

In a statement released on today, the federation said it had noted “with great concern” the rampant sale and illegal use of its intellectual property, including replica jerseys, logos, designs and other official assets associated with the sport.

“The Zimbabwe Handball Federation has noted the rampant sell and unauthorised use of the federation’s intellectual property by individuals and institutions with great concern,” read part of the statement.

The federation said the increasing abuse of its intellectual property threatened the integrity and commercial value of handball as the sport continues to grow in Zimbabwe through grassroots development and regional participation.

“Unauthorised selling and use of handball regalia and the ZHF logo must cease forthwith,” the statement further read.

ZHF Secretary General Alouis Nyamhanga said the federation was prepared to take action against offenders found violating its intellectual property rights.

“ZHF will take appropriate action against those found on the wrong side,” added Nyamhanga.

The federation also encouraged individuals and companies willing to legitimately produce or distribute official handball merchandise to engage the Secretary General’s office or the Marketing Department for clearance and approval.

The warning comes at a time local sporting organisations are increasingly facing challenges linked to counterfeit merchandise and unauthorised branding, with  such practices deprive associations of revenue and weaken the credibility of their products.

The latest move by ZHF signals the federation’s determination to protect its commercial identity while ensuring that benefits generated from official regalia contribute towards the development and promotion of handball in Zimbabwe.
