The 18-year-old America beat 11 other contestants to clinch the title, which saw Sharmaine Dhliwayo (22) and Ethel Tachirera (19) from Shurugwi being crowned first and second princess, respectively.

Millicent Sakala, an “O” Level student at a private college and Midlands State University psychology student, Audrey Matambanadzo (20) were crowned Miss Bikini and Miss Talent respectively. Natasha Moyo (22), a hotel and catering student, was crowned Miss Personality.

Event organiser Mavis Koslek, of Image Modelling Agency, paid tribute to the girls for their sterling performance. She however, decried the lack of sponsorship for the Miss Zimbabwe Midlands pageant.

“Our biggest challenge is that no sponsors have come on board to assist the Miss Midlands pageant despite the abundant talent in the province,” she said.

“Our biggest appeal is for the corporate world to chip in and be part of the pageant.”

Koslek said her agency was working to raise money for America and Dhliwayo to enable them to travel to Harare for the Miss Zimbabwe finals scheduled for July 27.
