The party’s president Dumiso Dabengwa expressed readiness to participate in the upcoming elections, saying the party would be fielding candidates countrywide. “We are ready for the elections and we will field candidates countrywide,” he said.

The date for the upcoming elections is now subject to court rulings after the MDC parties filed papers opposing President Robert Mugabe’s July 31 election date proclamation.

Party spokesperson Mjobisa Nuku said the party was looking for funds for its campaigns, adding that an election manifesto centred on devolution of power will be launched soon.

“The financial strain is affecting individuals and companies alike and we have not been spared.

“We are making all efforts to make sure that we will be funded by our members, supporters and sympathisers. We feel that we will be resourced,” Nuku added.

The Nomination Court is expected to sit today to receive names of aspiring candidates for the upcoming elections.

Aspiring candidates will be required to sign two copies of the electoral code of conduct before being accepted.
