BIAA has more than 20 affiliates, among them Simunye Arts, Ziyawa Perfoming Arts, The Snipers, New Age and Iyasa.

Honest Sibanda, the association’s president and director of Whatever Sports Bar, called on the corporate sector to support the arts industry.

“Artistes are important to the society and as a way of honouring them, we will pay for our affiliates’ funeral policies so that their families and friends will not have a hard time when they die,” he said.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe programmes officer William Nyandoro called on the corporate sector to find ways of employing artists in their advertisements.

“I call upon the corporate world to assist in arts, even by using our artists in making adverts like they do in Harare. It will go a long way in the future of our industry and artistes,” he said.

“Bulawayo is good with arts and we have noted the increase in the number of arts festivals such as the Bulawayo Culture Festival and now the National Arts Merit Awards will be hosted in the city for the second time running. This shows that the nation trusts us.”

Entertainment was provided by a number of the association’s affiliates such as Snipers, Zimnyama, Imvimbi and others.
