MASVINGO — ZIMPAPERS board chairman Paul Chimedza has been taken to task over the biased and unfair coverage that his stable subjects other parties to, compared to the favourable reporting it gives to Zanu PF.

Speaking at a Quill Speak, pitting aspiring MDC-T and Zanu PF candidates in Masvingo, organised by the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists, MDC-T aspiring candidate for Masvingo West, Takanayi Mureyi, challenged Chimedza to ensure that all parties get fair coverage ahead of the July 31 polls.

“Chimedza, why is it that The Herald is casting Zanu PF in good picture and does the opposite for the MDC-T?” he asked. “You should just ensure fair coverage for both parties.”

Chimedza, however, did not respond to the allegations during his presentation or during the question and answer segment. Zimpapers publishes The Herald, The Sunday Mail, Umthunywa, Kwayedza, Chronicle and H-Metro.

The MDC-T has long accused the State-controlled media, including ZBC, of bias. The party had called for media reforms before the July 31 polls and demanded equal access to eletronic coverage.
