The Matabeleland South situated school, which was established in 1859 is one of the oldest schools in the country and has produced quite a number of eminent people in society like the likes of Zifa vice-president Ndumiso Gumede.

Interim chairman of Fisa Joshua Mpofu told Southern Eye Sport that the tournament will be open to all golf players and well-wishers as this is a fundraising event.

“We have invited a number of golfers and we are expecting 10 players to come down from Harare with a few more players from South Africa to come for the tournament. We encourage all the former students and well-wishers to come through and support this worthy cause. The purpose is to buy a bus which costs around $115 000,” Mpofu said.

The tournament will use a four-better-ball format where two teams of two players each play against each other using better-ball scoring.

“This is the second year that we are hosting the tournament with our first tournament being held last year. We lacked an audience for last year’s tournament, therefore we are encouraging members of the public and former Inyathi students to come out and support this year’s tournament,” Mpofu added.

Some of the local golfers expected to participate include Rodger Muhlwa, Moses Mlalazi and Dumisani Ndlovu, all former students at Inyathi while more golfers are expected to confirm their participation before Saturday.

A number of items like T-shirts and hats will be on sale while participants will have to pay $20 in order to be able to play on the day.
