Bulawayo magistrates Willard Maphios Moyo and Themba Chimiso remanded the squatters out of custody to September, during their appearance at the Western Commonage Courts.

According to prosecutors, the 23 invaded 87-year-old Senda’s Bidminton Farm along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road between January 1 and August 17.

They allegedly parcelled out plots among each other and started building permanent structures on the property.

Senda made a report to the police, leading to the arrest of the heads of the 23 families.

Police have since evicted the families and destroyed their illegal structures.
