ANGLO-PLATINUM Unki Mine, based in Shurugwi, which last year undertook a housing project for workers, is set to complete 200 housing units by the end of this year, a company official has said.

Unki general manager Walter Nemasasi said of the 1 407 stands acquired at Impali Source Farm in Shurugwi, 1 200 had already been serviced.

“We expect 200 houses to be commissioned by the end of December this year,” Nemasasi said.

The platinum mine which began operations in 2011, expects to fork out $80 million for the housing project which will see 3 500 houses being constructed.

The mine also intends to bulid schools, clinics and shopping centres on the same land and this will be in three phases.

Unki bought the 1 105 hectare Impali Source Farm from Shurugwi Town Council.
