The mbanje plant measuring 1,4m was allegedly found by police detectives from the dangerous drugs squad after a tip-off from members of the community.

Millia Chenjelani pleaded not guilty to the charge when she appeared before Gweru magistrate Gertude Mayenyose saying she did not that know the plant was mbanje.

Prosecutor Chipo Matshe told the court that on January 8, detectives received information that there was a mbanje plant measuring 1,4m in the accused’s garden.

Police went to her house and allegedly discovered the mbanje plant in her onion garden covered with dry branches and arrested her.

The trial continues today.
