AN 18-year-old Filabusi man was convicted and sentenced to five years in jail for sodomising a 12-year-old boy. PERPETUAL PHIRI OWN CORRESPONDENT
Nkanyiso Sibanda from Asibambaneni village under Chief Ncube was convicted on his own plea of guilt when he appeared before Gwanda regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a sodomy charge.
Two years of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence during that period.
Regional prosecutor Johannes Tlou told the court that on September 28 at around 10pm, Sibanda returned from a beer drink and found the boy asleep.
He got into the boy’s bedroom, sneaked under the blankets and removed the boy’s short and underwear.
He then forced the boy to lie on the bed and sodomised him once.
Sibanda warned the boy not to tell anyone and retired to his bedroom.
The boy told another lad and they were overheard discussing the issue by his sister who advised him to report the matter to his grandmother. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
