A FORM THREE schoolboy from Plumtree appeared in court on Friday facing charges of raping a Grade Two pupil.
The accused (name withheld as he is a minor) pleaded not guilty to rape and was remanded in custody to today by regional magistrate Merylene Mtshina.
Allegations against the boy are that sometime in May this year, the girl’s mother took her to the homestead of the accused.
At around 8pm, the girl’s mother and the mother of the boy left the children alone while they went to a funeral.
The boy had still not arrived from school. The girl and others had supper and went to sleep. The boy arrived home and found the children fast asleep.
It is alleged that the boy went to the room where the girl was sleeping and raped her once.
It is alleged that the girl woke up and screamed resulting in the boy fleeing out of the room.
The complaint narrated her ordeal to one of the family members, but the case was not reported to the police.
The matter came to light when the police got a tip-off from the members of the community, leading to the boy’s arrest.
The girl was referred to Plumtree District Hospital where a medical report was compiled.
