PERPETUAL PHIRI OWN CORRESPONDENT

Likwa Phiri of Mayezane village was convicted on his plea when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Arafat Kozanai yesterday facing assault, unlawful entry and malicious damage to property charges.

Phiri was cautioned on the first count and sentenced to 20 days imprisonment or a fine of $50.

He was also ordered to perform 105 hours of community service at Mayezane Primary School.

Prosecutor Edward Ndlovu told the court that on November 16 at around 5pm, Xolisani Sibanda (27) met Phiri’s wife, who was returning from fetching water at a nearby stream.

He greeted her and this did not go down well with Phiri, who accused Sibanda of having an affair with his wife.

Phiri started punching Sibanda in the face until he sustained some bruises and a swollen face.

On the same day at around 9pm, Phiri trespassed into Sibanda’s homestead and insulted him.

The court heard that later that same night, Phiri damaged two doors and two solar panels worth $100 in Sibanda’s bedroom hut.
