Tamuka Nkomo of Bigben compound was sentenced on his own plea of guilt for assaulting Rodreck Vundla (42). However, 12 months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition that Nkomo does not commit a similar offence within that period.

Prosecutor Jefta Nyikadzinashe told the court that on November 10 at around 7pm, Nkomo was drinking beer with his friends at Phakama beer garden where Vundla was also a patron. A misunderstanding arose between Vundla and his friends and Nkomo resulting in a harsh exchange of words.

Things later calmed down, but the court heard that when Vundla was going home, he was ambushed by Nkomo who hit him on the left side of the head with an unknown object. Vundla fell down to the ground and started bleeding from a deep cut he sustained as a result of the assault.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Nkomo’s arrest. A medical report was produced in court as an exhibit.
