SUNGURA artiste, Nicholas Zacharia, popularly known as “Senior Lecturer” or Madzibaba, was on Saturday morning mobbed by fans at Kudzanai bus terminus, Gweru, resulting in a temporary traffic jam when fans spotted him in his Mazda BT50 twin-cab vehicle. Stephen Chadenga Own Correspondent

Madzibaba was coming from Mkoba where he had performed at Takarangana night club on Friday night.

Fans, mostly touts at Kudzanai Renkini, mobbed his vehicle chanting “Senior Lecturer” and beating the car’s body several times.

The Mabvi Nemagokora hit-maker responded by smiling and waving to fans in appreciation.

After the crowd paved way for his vehicle to proceed, some overzealous fans hung from the back of his car and he had to stop and restrain them from engaging in dangerous behaviour before his driver sped off.

Madzibaba had put up a splendid performance at Takarangana, where his loyal fans braved the much-dreaded “January disease” and parted with their money to attend the show.

The left-handed guitarist took fans down memory lane with yesteryear hits as well as his 26th and latest offering, Kurapa Nemanzwi, released last year.

“I pay tribute to my fans in Gweru who have been with me through thick and thin. I promise fireworks in 2014 to them,” the Sungura godfather said.
