THE Bulawayo Public Transport Association (BUPTA) yesterday said commuter omnibuses had not increased their fares but made a mere adjustment on the rand/dollar rate.

BUPTA chairperson Strike Ndlovu said the fares remained unchanged at R5 and the only problem was that the rand had weakened against the dollar hence the adjustment.

“Residents should not worry because the increase in commuter omnibus fares is based on rate adjustment of the rand against the dollar,” he said.

“The fare was raised from R5 to R6 per trip such that when you pay with $1 you get R6 change. After all the dollar is the most circulating currency in the country.”

Residents had complained about the sudden increase.
