Eye witnesses allege that Isaac Manduraya (18) failed to cautiously check oncoming traffic as he hurried to join his colleague across the road.
According to Hlalo, the accident could have been a nasty one, but he tried his best to save the life of the youth.
“The boy just jumped into my way without checking, I almost veered off the road trying to avoid him,” said the depressed Hlalo.
“Fortunate enough for the victim and myself, I was travelling at a moderate speed as this accident could have been fatal.”
The victim suffered a fractured left thigh.
A colleague of the victim said they were on their way home from collecting Ordinary level results at Founders High when the accident occurred.
“This happened in the blink of an eye. I am yet to figure out what happened, but I heard the screeching of tyres and then saw my friend lying flat on the road,” said the vitcim’s friend, who asked not to be named.
