Leroy Nkabinde Maplanka (59) was not asked to plead to contravening Section 29 (1) (a) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act Chapter 15:03 when he appeared before Bulawayo senior magistrate Abednico Ndebele on Wednesday.

He was remanded to today.

Allegations against Maplanka are that on February 8 this year, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics unit in Bulawayo were tipped that he was dealing in medical drugs without a licence.

They conducted surveillance on him and at around 1pm, they saw him about to leave his residence and stopped him before he could enter his vehicle.

It is the State’s case that when they searched Maplanka’s house, they found 10x200grams/100ml Ciprofloxaun injections, 2x 50miligrams Syrup, two Wagra Sildenfill tablets, 3x100mg Kamagra Sildenfill tablets, 1x50mg sachet of Kamagra Sildenfill oral jelly, 66x25mg Indomethacin Capsules tablets, 19×25 mg Indomin Capsules tablets which were not registered medicines with the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe.

Maplanka was immediately arrested.
