Cuthbert Masotsha appeared before Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing kidnapping and rape charges last week.

Allegations against Masotsha were that on February 10 this year at around 3pm, his girlfriend, who cannot be named to protect her identity, met him and he asked her to accompany him to his house and she agreed.

On arrival at the house, they sat in the dining room where Masotsha asked to be intimate with her, but she refused.

Masotsha allegedly produced a knife and threatened to kill her if she resisted his advances. In fear of the threats, the woman complied and got intimate with him against her wishes.

It is the State’s case that after a while Masotsha again raped his girlfriend and locked her in his house and left for work since he was on night duty. He only released her when he returned in the morning. The woman went home and her brother told her to go back where she had slept.

The woman went back to Masotsha’s house and her sister followed her. That is when she told her sister that she had been held hostage by her boyfriend who allegedly forced himself on her. They reported the matter to the police, leading to Masotsha’s arrest.
