Dube scooped gold in the 400m, in long jump and was in the 4x400m relay team that scooped gold.

Beulah Vale walked away with silver in the women’s 1 500m race He also got silver in triple jump.

The women’s chess team got gold while the men’s team got silver.

Hillside also got a gold medal for both the men and women’s football teams and also received soccer kits, a ball for each team and floating trophies.

Emmanuel Magama picked up silver for the college’s table tennis team.

Hillside grabbed a bronze medal in golf, with the men and women’s cricket teams getting silver.

At a brief function held at the institution on Friday morning, college principal Elkanah Dube said sport was an integral part of the college and honouring excelling students showed the college’s total commitment to the promotion of sport which has improved the quality of lives of a number of Zimbabweans.

“This awards function represents our college’s high regard for the entire sports community of our college. It also indicates the college’s total community to the promotion and development of sports and recreation among all our students.

“This commitment derives from our knowledge that sports and recreation serve to build our nation and are an essential part of our effort to improve the quality of life of all Zimbabweans, especially those who were deprived in the past.

“Today, therefore, we recognize and pay tribute to our talented sports men and women for being highly motivated, highly skilled and well-trained by their coaches. We as a college thank you together with your coaches for representing the college to the best of your abilities and for making us proud to be part and parcel of Hillside Teachers’ College,” Dube added.

The college prepares for the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union games to be held later this month.
