Ndebele reportedly had problems with his wife Barbra Ncube who sometimes lived with her parents.

He was reported to have recently assaulted his mother-in-law and went into hiding when the matter was reported to the police.

According to villagers, Ndebele resurfaced on Monday last week and was seen crying after quarrelling with his wife and mother-in-law.

He was then seen sharpening a knife, but no one suspected his intentions.

On Tuesday night, Ndebele visited his in-laws’ homestead and entered the hut where his wife and child were sleeping.

He reportedly told his wife that he had come to kill her and the child before committing suicide.

His wife fought and overpowered him before fleeing with an angry Ndebele in hot pursuit.

After failing to catch up with Ncube, Ndebele went back to the hut where the child was.

Masuku rushed to the hut hoping to snatch the child before Ndebele got there, but Ndebele found her inside and stabbed her in the chest, neck and back.

Masuku staggered to her hut where she collapsed and died in a pool of blood.

Ndebele also attacked the family’s herd boy stabbing him three times, but he escaped and raised alarm with other villagers.

Ndebele fled into the night and is reportedly still at large.

The matter was reported to Sipepa police and Masuku’s body was taken to Tsholotsho Hospital for a post mortem.

Matabeleland North police could not be reached for comment as their phones continuously rang unanswered.
