Godwin Mumanyi Musiyiwa (46) of Makokoba in Bulawayo yesterday appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove charged with four counts of physically abusing his daughter Future (23) between 2010 and 2013.

Future told the court that she blamed her father for the death of her mother, who allegedly died as a result of injuries she sustained from being assaulted.

She said the abuse stated when she was still a minor and her mother prevented her from reporting her father to the police.

Musiyiwa pleaded not guilty to all counts and accused his daughter of framing him because of his disapproval of their use of water they got from an apostolic sect they frequented.

Mushove remanded the matter to June 23. The State led by Kudakwashe Jaravaza called Future to be cross examined by her father.

During cross examination, Future said sometime between January and December 2010, she was removing clothes from the washing line when her father accused her of being responsible for the breakdown of his sewing machine.

“He kicked me in the lower abdomen once and this led me to miss my periods.

“Between January 1 and December 31 2011 you had a quarrel with my mother and you wanted to assault her when I stood between you and her and you punched me on my left ear repeatedly for no apparent reason. This resulted in the blockage of my ear,” Future told her father.

She said he assaulted her mother resulting in her bleeding through the ear and she started falling sick and never completely recovered until she eventually died.

Future said her father threatened to kill her and she then fled to her aunt’s residence.

However, her father disputed the allegations saying the matter was reported to the police because he had declared that he did not want to see their so called “holy water”.

“I had objected to that water and masowe visits and you went away from home at night so I had to report you missing to the police,” Musiyiwa said.

Future said she did not join the apostolic sect, but her aunt only did.

She said she had left home because her father had threatened to kill her with a knife.

Musiyiwa produced medical reports detailing that his wife, who is Future’s mother, suffered from loss of appetite and weakness of body due to an ailment that demanded a special diet.

However, Future maintained that he occasionally assaulted her mother resulting in her death.
