Samuel Ndlovu of Chisuma village 4 under chief Mvuthu was on Monday convicted on his own plea of guilty to having sexual intercourse with a young person when he appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani.

Prosecutor Listen Nare told the court that sometime in January, Ndlovu met the 15-year-old girl and proposed love to her and she agreed. In February, Ndlovu asked the juvenile to have sexual intercourse with him promising to marry and make her his second wife and she consented.

The two went to a nearby bushy area close to the juvenile’s residence where they had sex resulting in the girl losing her virginity.

He then told the girl to go home and not to reveal the matter to anyone.

A fortnight later, the State said the two again had sexual intercourse without protection at the same place.

The matter only came to light in May when the girl reported to her grandmother that she was pregnant and an AFM pastor was responsible.

The juvenile mitigated for a lesser sentence indicating that she was ready for marriage: “l am an orphan and pregnant. I dropped out of school the time I noticed that I was pregnant and it will be better if you give him a lesser sentence so that he takes care of his child and marries me as he promised,” the juvenile said.

“He already has three kids with his first wife, but I am ready to be the second wife.” Ndlovu was sentenced to 12 months in prison. Four months were suspended for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence.

The other eight months were suspended and commuted to 280 hours of community service at Chisuma Clinic.
